Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जग्राह प्रणतः पादौ मनो मातुः प्रसादयन् ।
अभिवाद्य सुमित्रां च कैकेयीं च यशस्विनीम् ॥६-१३०-४९॥
jagrāha praṇataḥ pādau mano mātuḥ prasādayan |
abhivādya sumitrāṃ ca kaikeyīṃ ca yaśasvinīm ॥6-130-49॥
Translation
(Shri Rama), propitiating his mother's mind, bowed down and held her feet. Then he paid respects to Sumitra and the glorious Kaikeyi.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(श्री राम ने) माता (कैकेयी) के मन को प्रसन्न करते हुए, झुककर उनके चरण पकड़े। फिर उन्होंने सुमित्रा और यशस्विनी कैकेयी का भी अभिवादन किया।
English Commentary
Shri Rama's character shines brilliantly here. Despite Kaikeyi being the cause of his exile, Shri Rama touches her feet specifically to 'soothe her mind' (manah prasadayan). He knows she is riddled with guilt. By treating her with reverence, he proves that a son's duty is to honor his mother regardless of her past actions, washing away her guilt with his forgiveness.

श्री राम का चरित्र यहाँ निखर कर आता है। कैकेयी के कारण ही वनवास हुआ था, लेकिन श्री राम उनके मन को 'प्रसादयन' (प्रसन्न/शांत) करते हुए उनके पैर छूते हैं। वे जानते हैं कि कैकेयी आत्मग्लानि में हैं। श्री राम उन्हें 'यशस्विनी' मानकर आदर देते हैं, यह सिद्ध करते हुए कि पुत्र का धर्म माता के दोष देखना नहीं, बल्कि उनका सम्मान करना है।
