वारिवेगेन महता भिन्नः सेतुरिव क्षरन् ।
दुर्बन्धनमिदं मन्ये राज्यच्छिद्रमसंवृतम् ॥६-१३१-४॥
vārivegena mahatā bhinnaḥ seturiva kṣaran |
durbandhanamidaṃ manye rājyacchidramasaṃvṛtam ॥6-131-4॥
Translation
Just as a dam broken by a great force of water leaks and is hard to bind, I consider this breach in the kingdom (absence of the King) difficult to repair.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे महान जल के वेग से टूटा हुआ पुल (बाँध) पानी को रोकने में असमर्थ होता है, वैसे ही मैं इस राज्य रूपी खुले छिद्र (दोष/कठिनाई) को बांधना कठिन मानता हूँ।
English Commentary
Bharata uses the analogy of a breached dam ('bhinna setu'). Just as rushing water is hard to contain once a dam breaks, the social and political order of a kingdom is hard to maintain without a legitimate king. Bharata confesses that holding the kingdom together in Shri Rama's absence was a strenuous task, like trying to patch a leaking dam against a torrent. It highlights the necessity of Shri Rama's return for stability.

भरत राज्य की तुलना एक ऐसे बाँध से करते हैं जिसमें दरार आ गई हो। राजा के बिना राज्य की व्यवस्था बनाए रखना, टूटते हुए बाँध को रोकने जैसा कठिन कार्य है। 'दुर्बन्धनम्' शब्द बताता है कि श्री राम की अनुपस्थिति में अराजकता और अव्यवस्था को रोकना कितना चुनौतीपूर्ण था। भरत यह इंगित कर रहे हैं कि केवल श्री राम ही इस व्यवस्था को सुदृढ़ कर सकते हैं।
