English Commentary
This is one of the most poignant and symbolic images in the Ramayana. Bharata, the de facto ruler, carries Shri Rama's sandals on his head. This is the pinnacle of 'Dasya Bhakti' (devotion of servitude). The white umbrella and garlands represent sovereignty, which Bharata is carrying solely to return to the rightful owner, acting merely as a trustee.
