Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रतिकर्म च सीतायाः सर्वा दशरथस्त्रियः ।
आत्मनैव तदा चक्रुर्मनस्विन्यो मनोहरम् ॥६-१३१-१७॥
pratikarma ca sītāyāḥ sarvā daśarathastriyaḥ |
ātmanaiva tadā cakrurmanasvinyo manoharam ॥6-131-17॥
Translation
All the noble-minded wives of Dasharatha then personally performed the captivating grooming/decoration of Sita.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दशरथ की सभी मनस्विनी (उदार मन वाली) पत्नियों (माताओं) ने तब स्वयं ही सीता का मनोहर श्रृंगार किया।
English Commentary
In a touching display of affection, the Queens of Dasharatha personally groom Sita. Not trusting this to servants, they adorn their daughter-in-law themselves ('atmanaiva'). This reintegrates Sita into the domestic fold and honors her sacrifices. It suggests a healing of past wounds within the family.

सीता जी का श्रृंगार दासियों ने नहीं, अपितु उनकी सासु-माताओं (कौसल्या, सुमित्रा, कैकेयी आदि) ने 'आत्मनैव' (स्वयं अपने हाथों से) किया। यह सीता के प्रति उनके वात्सल्य और सम्मान को दर्शाता है। वनवास के कष्टों के बाद, घर की बहु का यह स्वागत अत्यंत भावुक है। 'मनस्विनी' शब्द माताओं की उदारता को इंगित करता है।
