Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
गन्धवन्ति च पुष्पाणि बभूवू राघवोत्सवे ।
सहस्रशतमश्वानां धेनूनां च गवां तथा ॥६-१३१-७३॥
gandhavanti ca puṣpāṇi babhūvū rāghavotsave |
sahasraśatamaśvānāṃ dhenūnāṃ ca gavāṃ tathā ॥6-131-73॥
Translation
Flowers became exceptionally fragrant during Shri Rama's festival. He gave away hundreds of thousands of horses and milch cows (in charity).
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्री रघुनाथ जी के उत्सव में पुष्प सुगंधित हो उठे। उन्होंने (श्री राम ने) लाखों घोड़े और दूध देने वाली गायें (दान में) दीं।
English Commentary
The heightened fragrance of flowers indicates the sattvic purification of the environment. The donation of cows and horses reflects both economic stability and the King's magnanimity. In ancient times, 'Godan' (donating cows) was considered the supreme charity. Shri Rama's action signifies His policy of enriching every section of society.

पुष्पों की सुगंध का बढ़ना वातावरण की सात्विक शुद्धि का संकेत है। दान में गायों और घोड़ों का उल्लेख अर्थव्यवस्था की सुदृढ़ता और राजा की उदारता को दर्शाता है। प्राचीन काल में गोदान (गायों का दान) सबसे बड़ा दान माना जाता था। श्री राम का यह कृत्य समाज के हर वर्ग को समृद्ध बनाने की उनकी नीति का परिचायक है।
