इति कर्तव्यम् इति एव कृत्वा निश्चयम् आत्मनः ।
स्थिर बुद्धिः ततो रम्याम् यान शालाम् जगाम ह ॥३-३५-३॥
Iti kartavyam iti eva kṛtvā niścayam ātmanaḥ |
Sthira buddhiḥ tato ramyām yāna śālāṃ jagāma ha ॥3-35-3॥
Translation
Having firmly resolved within himself that "this indeed must be done," and with a steady mind, he then went to the beautiful carriage house.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यही करने योग्य है"—मन में ऐसा निश्चय करके और अपनी बुद्धि को स्थिर करके, वह (रावण) सुंदर यान-शाला (रथ-घर) की ओर गया।
English Commentary
The transition from contemplation to action is finalized here. The phrase sthira buddhiḥ (steady/firm intellect) indicates that Ravana has overcome any hesitation. He has locked onto his target path—the abduction plan involving Maricha. The phrase iti kartavyam (this must be done) shows his resolve. He proceeds to the yana-shala (royal garage/carriage house), described as ramyam (pleasing/beautiful), reminding us that despite his dark intentions, Ravana lives amidst supreme opulence and aesthetic refinement.
हिंदी टीका
'इति कर्तव्यम्' (यह करना ही है)—यह वाक्यांश रावण के दृढ़ संकल्प को सूचित करता है। एक बार जब उसने मन में विचार कर लिया, तो उसकी बुद्धि 'स्थिर' हो गई। दुविधा की स्थिति समाप्त हो चुकी है। 'यान शालाम्' (रथ शाला) की ओर जाना क्रियान्वयन (Execution) का आरंभ है। रावण का चरित्र यहाँ एक ऐसे नायक (प्रतिनायक) के रूप में उभरता है जो निर्णय लेने के बाद पीछे मुड़कर नहीं देखता। उसकी यान-शाला को 'रम्याम्' (सुंदर) कहा गया है, जो लंका के वैभव और ऐश्वर्य का द्योतक है।
