कः त्वया सुखिना राजन् न अभिनन्दति पापकृत् ।
केन इदम् उपदिष्टम् ते मृत्यु द्वारम् उपायतः ॥ ॥३-४१-३॥
Kaḥ tvayā sukhinā rājan na abhinandati pāpakṛt । Kena idam upadiṣṭam te mṛtyu dvāram upāyataḥ ॥ ॥3-41-3॥
Translation
O King! Who is that sinful person who does not rejoice in your happiness? By whom has this course of action, which is essentially a gateway to death, been advised to you?

हे राजन्! ऐसा कौन सा पापी है जो आपके सुख और कल्याण से प्रसन्न नहीं है? मृत्यु के द्वार के समान यह उपाय (सीता हरण) आपको किसने सुझाया है?
English Commentary
Maricha questions the source of this advice, labeling the abettor as a 'sinner' (pāpakṛt) who effectively envies Ravana's current prosperity. By characterizing the plan to abduct Sita as mṛtyu dvāram (the gateway to death), Maricha creates a stark juxtaposition between Ravana’s current life of pleasure and the inevitable doom this action brings. This verse highlights the concept of Kamatantra versus Niti. While Ravana is driven by desire, Maricha analyzes the geopolitical reality: antagonizing a warrior capable of destroying Khara and Dushana is suicide. Maricha suggests that true loyalty involves protecting the king from self-destruction, whereas those encouraging this path are essentially enemies disguised as advisors, pushing Ravana toward an inescapable fate.

मारीच यहाँ रावण को सचेत करते हुए पूछता है कि उसे यह आत्मघाती सलाह किसने दी है। मारीच का कथन कूटनीतिक और मनोवैज्ञानिक दोनों है। वह रावण के 'शुभचिंतकों' की निष्ठा पर प्रश्नचिह्न लगाता है। मारीच समझता है कि राम से बैर मोल लेना साक्षात् मृत्यु को आमंत्रण देना है। वह इस कृत्य को 'मृत्यु द्वार' (मौत का दरवाजा) कहता है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि सीता का हरण लंका के विनाश का प्रत्यक्ष कारण बनेगा। यहाँ मारीच की दूरदर्शिता स्पष्ट होती है; वह जानता है कि रावण का सुख शांति में है, युद्ध में नहीं। जो व्यक्ति रावण को युद्ध के लिए उकसा रहा है, वह मित्र के भेष में शत्रु है। मारीच परोक्ष रूप से शूर्पणखा और अकंपन जैसे सलाहकारों की आलोचना कर रहा है जिन्होंने रावण को इस विनाशकारी मार्ग पर अग्रसर किया।
