केन अयम् उपदिष्टः ते विनाशः पाप कर्मणा ।
स पुत्रस्य स राज्यस्य स अमात्यस्य निशाचर ॥३-४१-२॥
kena ayam upadiṣṭaḥ te vināśaḥ pāpa karmaṇā |
sa putrasya sa rājyasya sa amātyasya niśācara ॥3-41-2॥
Translation
By which doer of sinful deeds has this destruction—of you together with your sons, kingdom, and ministers—been advised to you, O Night-ranger?

हे निशाचर! किस पापी ने तुम्हें तुम्हारे पुत्रों, राज्य और मंत्रियों सहित विनाश का यह (उपाय) उपदेश दिया है?
English Commentary
Maricha poses a direct and daring question to Ravana. He asks who the Papa karmana (sinful doer/advisor) is that has suggested this course of action. Maricha explicitly labels the plan not as a strategy, but as Vinasha (destruction). He prophesies total annihilation: not just Ravana, but his sons (Sa putrasya), kingdom (Sa rajyasya), and ministers (Sa amatyasya) will all perish. Maricha tries to make Ravana realize the scale of the catastrophe he is inviting. He implies that whoever suggested this (be it Shurpanakha, Akampana, or Ravana's own twisted mind) is the true enemy of the Rakshasa race, guiding them towards total extinction.
