न देवेषु न यक्षेषु न गंधर्वेषु न ऋषिषु ।
अहम् पश्यामि लोकेषु यो मे वीर्य समो भवेत् ॥ ॥३-५५-२०॥
na deveṣu na yakṣeṣu na gandharveṣu na ṛṣiṣu । aham paśyāmi lokeṣu yo me vīrya samo bhavet ॥ ॥3-55-20॥
Translation
Neither among the gods, nor Yakshas, nor Gandharvas, nor Rishis—I do not see anyone in the worlds who can equal my valor.

देवताओं, यक्षों, गंधर्वों या ऋषियों में—मैं तीनों लोकों में किसी को नहीं देखता जो वीर्य (पराक्रम) में मेरे समान हो।
English Commentary
Ravana concludes his pitch with a declaration of absolute supremacy. He lists various celestial beings—Gods, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Rishis—and asserts that none possess valor equal to his (vīrya samo bhavet). He is telling Sita that she has been chosen by the Alpha of the universe. Implicitly, he is mocking the idea that Rama could pose a threat. It is the ultimate argument of the egoist: "I am the most powerful being in existence; therefore, you should be mine." This arrogance blinds him to the power of virtue, which he discounts entirely.

अपने प्रस्ताव के अंत में रावण परम अहंकार की घोषणा करता है। वह अपनी तुलना ब्रह्माण्ड की समस्त शक्तियों से करता है और स्वयं को सर्वश्रेष्ठ पाता है। 'यो मे वीर्य समो भवेत्' (जो मेरे समान पराक्रमी हो) – उसे ऐसा कोई दिखाई नहीं देता। वह राम का नाम भी नहीं लेता, मानो राम उसकी तुलना के योग्य ही नहीं हैं। वह सीता को यह विश्वास दिलाना चाहता है कि उसने (सीता ने) दुनिया के सबसे शक्तिशाली पुरुष का ध्यान आकर्षित किया है, और उसे इस अवसर (offer) को ठुकराना नहीं चाहिए। यह उसकी 'नार्सिसिज़्म' (narcissism) का चरम है।
