उवाच लक्ष्मणम् वीरो दुःखितो दुःखितम् वचः ।
अभिजानामि पुष्पाणि तानि इमानि इह लक्ष्मण ॥ ॥३-६४-२६॥
uvāca lakṣmaṇam vīro duḥkhito duḥkhitam vacaḥ । abhijānāmi puṣpāṇi tāni imāni iha lakṣmaṇa ॥ ॥3-64-26॥
Translation
The hero, sorrowful, spoke sorrowful words to Lakshmana: "I recognize these flowers, O Lakshmana; they are indeed those very ones."

उस वीर (राम) ने दुखी होकर लक्ष्मण से यह दुखद वचन कहा— "हे लक्ष्मण! मैं इन फूलों को पहचानता हूँ, ये वही फूल हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama’s declaration "abhijanami" (I recognize them) is poignant. It signifies the deep personal connection he shares with Sita; he knows the specific flowers she wore. The juxtaposition of 'viro' (hero) and 'dukhito' (sorrowful) reinforces the complexity of Rama’s character—he is a mighty warrior capable of profound emotional vulnerability. This identification changes the nature of the search from speculation to confirmation. The flowers are silent witnesses to the tragedy that has just occurred.

'अभिजानामि' (मैं भली-भाँति पहचानता हूँ) शब्द राम की तीक्ष्ण स्मृति और सीता के प्रति उनके अनुराग को दर्शाता है। जंगल के हजारों फूलों के बीच, राम उन विशिष्ट फूलों को पहचान लेते हैं। यह 'वीर' और 'दुःखित' का संयोग वाल्मीकि की शैली है—राम वीर हैं, पर पत्थर दिल नहीं। उनका दुख उनके मानवीय पक्ष को उजागर करता है। यह पहचानना कि ये वही फूल हैं, इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि सीता इसी मार्ग से गयी हैं, जिससे संदेह समाप्त हो जाता है।
