कुलीन: सत्त्वसम्पन्नस्तेजस्वी चरितव्रत: ।
राज्यहेतो: कथं पापमाचरेत्त्वद्विधो जन: ॥ ॥२-१०४-१६॥
Kulinah sattvasampannastejasvi charitavratah |
Rajyahetoh katham papamacharettvadvidho janah ॥2-104-16॥
Translation
You are of noble lineage, endowed with strength of character, splendorous, and devoted to vows. How could a person like you commit a sin for the sake of a kingdom?
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम कुलीन, सत्त्वगुण से सम्पन्न, तेजस्वी और उत्तम व्रत का पालन करने वाले हो। तुम्हारे जैसा मनुष्य राज्य के लिए पाप कैसे कर सकता है?
English Commentary
Rama begins his counsel by fundamentally validating Bharata's integrity. By listing Bharata’s attributes—noble birth, inner strength (sattva), radiance, and adherence to vows—Rama rhetorically asks how such a person could ever sin for power. This is a crucial reassurance. Rama is explicitly stating that he does not suspect Bharata of any complicity in Kaikeyi’s plans. He acquits Bharata of any potential "sin" of greed or usurpation, thereby setting the stage to explain that the situation is a result of destiny and parental command, not Bharata’s ambition.

श्रीराम यहाँ भरत के चरित्र पर लगे किसी भी संभावित आक्षेप को पूरी तरह खारिज कर देते हैं। वे भरत के गुणों—कुलीनता, सत्त्वगुण, तेज और व्रत-पालन—की प्रशंसा करते हैं। श्रीराम का प्रश्न अलंकारिक है; इसका अर्थ है कि भरत जैसा धर्मात्मा राज्य के लोभ में कभी धर्म का उल्लंघन नहीं कर सकता। श्रीराम यह स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि वे जानते हैं कि वनवास की स्थिति भरत के किसी षड्यंत्र का परिणाम नहीं है। यह कथन भरत के मन से ग्लानि (guilt) को हटाने के लिए अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है।
