अथैतत् पृष्ठत: कृत्वा वनमेव भवानित: ।
गमिष्यति गमिष्यामि भवता सार्द्धमप्यहम् ॥ ॥२-१०६-३२॥
Athaitat pṛṣṭhataḥ kṛtvā vanameva bhavānitaḥ । Gamiṣyati gamiṣyāmi bhavatā sārddhamapyaham ॥ ॥2-106-32॥
Translation
But if, disregarding this prayer, you proceed from here to the forest alone, then I too shall go along with you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि आप मेरी इस प्रार्थना को पीठ पीछे करके (ठुकरा कर) यहाँ से वन को ही जाएंगे, तो मैं भी आपके साथ (वन) चलूँगा।
English Commentary
This is Bharata's ultimatum. Having exhausted logic, emotion, and duty, he lays down his final card: passive resistance. If Rama disregards (pṛṣṭhataḥ kṛtvā - literally "putting behind") this plea and proceeds to the forest, Bharata declares, gamiṣyāmi bhavatā sārddham—"I shall go with you." This checkmates Rama; if Rama stays in the forest to save Ayodhya from kinglessness, he fails if Bharata also leaves Ayodhya. Bharata refuses to be the King under any circumstance.

यह भरत का 'अल्टीमेटम' (अंतिम निर्णय) है। इसे 'भरत का सत्याग्रह' भी कहा जा सकता है। वे कहते हैं, "यदि आप मेरी बात 'पृष्ठत: कृत्वा' (अनसुनी करके) वन जाएंगे, तो मैं अयोध्या नहीं लौटूंगा, मैं भी आपके साथ चलूँगा।" यह राम के लिए एक धर्मसंकट खड़ा कर देता है। यदि राम वन जाते हैं, तो भरत भी वनवासी बनेंगे, जिससे अयोध्या पूरी तरह अनाथ हो जाएगी। भरत ने राम के 'त्याग' का उत्तर अपने 'महात्याग' से दिया है।
