Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तरुणैश्चारुवेषैश्च नरैरुन्नतगामिभि: ।
सम्पतद्भिरयोध्यायां नाभिभान्ति महापथा: ॥ ॥२-११४-२९॥
Taruṇaiścāruveṣaiśca narairunnatagāmibhiḥ । Sampatadbhirayodhyāyāṃ nābhibhānti mahāpathāḥ ॥ ॥2-114-29॥
Translation
"The great highways of Ayodhya do not shine today, as they are devoid of the young men who used to traverse them in groups, dressed in beautiful attire and walking with their heads held high."

"सुंदर वेशभूषा धारण करने वाले और गर्व से मस्तक ऊँचा करके चलने वाले जो युवक समूहों में घूमा करते थे, उनके न होने से आज अयोध्या के राजमार्ग शोभा नहीं पा रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
Bharata returns to the visual aspect of the streets (mahāpathāḥ). He recalls how the highways used to bustle with young men dressed in charu-vesha (beautiful attire) walking unnata-gamibhih (with a lofty/proud gait). This gait symbolized the civic pride and confidence of living in a righteous kingdom. The current emptiness of the streets signifies a loss of that collective pride. The highways are physically present, but they "do not shine" (na abhibhānti) because the human element—the vibrant, confident citizenry—is missing, having retreated into sorrow.

यह श्लोक नगर की सड़कों की शून्यता का वर्णन करता है। किसी भी राजधानी की सड़कें वहां के नागरिकों, विशेषकर युवाओं के आत्मविश्वास और चहल-पहल से सुशोभित होती हैं। 'उन्नतगामिभि:' (ऊंची चाल चलने वाले/गर्व से चलने वाले) शब्द अयोध्यावासियों के पूर्व-आत्मविश्वास और स्वाभिमान को दर्शाता है। लेकिन अब, वे सड़कें वीरान हैं। न कोई सुंदर वेशभूषा है, न वह गर्वित चाल। यह दृश्य उस मनोवैज्ञानिक प्रभाव (psychological impact) को रेखांकित करता है जो नेतृत्व के खोने पर जनता पर पड़ता है—उनका स्वाभिमान और उत्साह टूट गया है।
