तां तथा ब्रुवत्स्तस्य भूमिपन्य महात्मनः ।
प्रभाता शर्वरी पुण्या चन्द्रनक्षत्रश्रालिनी ॥ ॥२-१४-१९॥
Tāṃ tathā bruvatstasya bhūmipanya mahātmanaḥ । Prabhātā śarvarī puṇyā candranakṣatraśrālinī ॥ ॥2-14-19॥
Translation
While the great-souled King spoke thus, the auspicious night, adorned with the moon and stars, transitioned into dawn.

उस महात्मा राजा (दशरथ) के इस प्रकार विलाप करते हुए ही वह पुण्यमयी रात्रि, जो चंद्रमा और नक्षत्रों से सुशोभित थी, प्रभात (सुबह) में परिवर्तित हो गई।
English Commentary
This narrative verse marks the relentless passage of time. Despite Dasaratha's pleading and despair, the night does not stop; dawn arrives inevitably. Valmiki refers to the night as punya (auspicious) and adorned with stars, highlighting the tragic contrast between the beauty of nature and the ugliness of the situation within the chamber. To the world, it is a beautiful, holy morning meant for a coronation; to Dasaratha, it is the beginning of the end. The term mahatmanah (great-souled) is used for Dasaratha, evoking sympathy for his plight—he is a noble soul trapped by a cruel promise. This verse serves as a transition, signaling that the time for private argumentation is over, and the public reality of the day must now be faced.
