तमग्र्यवेष्प्रमदाजनाकुलं ।
महेन्द्रवेश्मप्रतिमं निवेशनम् ।
विदीपयंश्चारु विवेश पार्थिवः ।
शशीव तारागणसंकुलं नभः ॥२-६-१॥

mahendraveśmapratimaṃ niveśanam |
vidīpayaṃścāru viveśa pārthivaḥ |

Translation
The King (Dasharatha) entered that inner apartment—which was filled with women adorned in splendid garments and which resembled the palace of Mahendra (Indra)—shining splendidly, just as the Moon enters the sky crowded with clusters of stars.

वे राजा (दशरथ जी) उस अन्तःपुर में, जो श्रेष्ठ वस्त्रों से सजी हुई स्त्रियों से भरा था, तथा जो इन्द्र के भवन के समान भव्य था, इस प्रकार शोभायमान होकर प्रवेश किए, जैसे चन्द्रमा तारों के समूह से भरे आकाश में प्रवेश करता है।
English Commentary
This verse elaborately depicts the grandeur of the inner apartments and the majestic presence of King Dasharatha. 'Tamagryaveṣpramadājanākulaṃ' shows that the inner apartment was crowded with Queens and attendants adorned in splendid and beautiful garments, who were ready for the auspicious occasion. The grandeur of the apartment is compared to 'mahendraveśmapratimaṃ niveśanam,' meaning it was as magnificent and opulent as the palace of Indra, the King of the Gods. King Dasharatha entered that 'niveśanam' (residence) 'vidīpayaṃścāru,' splendidly illuminating it with his radiance. The simile for his entry is highly artistic: 'śaśīva tārāgaṇasaṃkulaṃ nabhaḥ'—just as the Moon enters the sky crowded with clusters of stars. Here, King Dasharatha is likened to the Moon, and the women of the inner apartment to the clusters of stars. This simile highlights the King's exceptional splendor and central importance, as his presence illuminates the entire atmosphere. His entry into the inner apartments was aimed at conveying the news of Shri Rama's coronation and preparing the Queens for this grand festival.
