प्रगृह्य शिरसा पात्रं हविषो विधिवत्तदा ।
महते दैवतायाज्यं जुहाव ज्वलितानले ॥२-६-२॥
pragṛhya śirasā pātraṃ haviṣo vidhivattadā । mahate daivatāyājyaṃ juhāva jvalitānale ॥2-6-2॥
Translation
Then, taking the vessel of clarified butter (oblations) reverently upon his head, as prescribed by the scriptures, he (Śrī Rāma) offered the clarified butter into the blazing fire for the great deity (Lord Viṣṇu).

तत्पश्चात्, उन्होंने (श्री राम ने) विधिपूर्वक, सिर पर घी (हविष्य) का पात्र लेकर, प्रज्वलित अग्नि में महान देवता (भगवान विष्णु) के लिए आहुति (आहुति के रूप में घी) दी।
English Commentary
This śloka details the rituals performed by Crown Prince Śrī Rāma on the eve of his coronation. Following the instructions of the family priest, Maharṣi Vasiṣṭha, Śrī Rāma, accompanied by his wife Sītā-devī, had undertaken a fast and worshipped Lord Viṣṇu at night. This verse specifically describes his act of Homa (fire sacrifice). Taking the vessel containing clarified butter (haviṣya) with utmost respect upon his head, as prescribed by scriptural ordinance (vidhivat), he offered the clarified butter (ājya) into the blazing fire (jvalitānale) for the Great Deity (identified by commentators as Lord Viṣṇu). This act underscores Śrī Rāma's complete adherence to Dharma and scriptural injunctions. For an auspicious undertaking like the coronation, seeking the blessings of the deities through proper religious rites was a paramount duty (kartavya).
