न हि मन्ये नृशंसे त्वं राजधर्ममवेक्षसे ।
गतिं वा न विजानासि राजवृत्तस्य शाश्वतीम् ॥२-७३-२१॥
na hi manye nṛśaṃse tvaṃ rājadharmamavekṣase । gatiṃ vā na vijānāsi rājavṛttasya śāśvatīm ॥2-73-21॥
Translation
I do not think, O cruel woman, that you regard the Royal Dharma (duty of kings); or perhaps you do not know the eternal course of royal conduct.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे नृशंसे (क्रूर स्त्री)! मैं मानता हूँ कि तुम राजधर्म को नहीं देखती हो, अथवा तुम राज-व्यवहार की शाश्वत गति (परंपरा) को नहीं जानती हो।
English Commentary
Bharata accuses Kaikeyi of either malice or ignorance regarding statecraft. Addressing her as "nṛśaṃse" (cruel one), he asserts that she does not respect "Rājadharma" (the code of royal duty). Kingship is not merely about possession but about following the "śāśvatīm gatim" (eternal course/path). This implies that the rules of succession and conduct are timeless and not subject to the whims of a favorite queen. Bharata suggests that by ignoring these eternal laws, she has disqualified herself from being a guardian of the state. She treated the kingdom as personal property rather than a sacred trust governed by ancient laws.

भरत का स्वर यहाँ तिरस्कारपूर्ण है। वह कैकेयी को 'नृशंसे' (क्रूर/दयाहीन) कहते हैं। वह दो संभावनाएँ व्यक्त करते हैं: या तो कैकेयी राजधर्म की जानबूझकर उपेक्षा कर रही हैं ('न अवेक्षसे'), या वह अज्ञानी हैं और परंपरा को जानती ही नहीं ('न विजानासि')। 'राजवृत्तस्य शाश्वतीम् गतिं' का अर्थ है राजाओं के आचरण का वह प्रवाह जो सनातन काल से चला आ रहा है। भरत का तात्पर्य है कि एक रानी होकर भी कैकेयी ने राज्य की स्थिरता और धर्म को दांव पर लगा दिया। एक राजा का धर्म प्रजा और न्याय की रक्षा है, न कि अपने पुत्र के लिए पक्षपात करना। भरत यहाँ कैकेयी की राजनीतिक और नैतिक समझ पर प्रश्नचिह्न लगा रहे हैं।
