अन्ग प्रत्यन्गजः पुत्रः हृदयाच् च अपि जायते ।
तस्मात् प्रियतरः मातुः प्रियत्वान् न तु बान्धवः ॥ ॥२-७४-१४॥
Anga pratyangajaḥ putraḥ hṛdayāc ca api jāyate । Tasmāt priyataraḥ mātuḥ priyatvān na tu bāndhavaḥ ॥ ॥2-74-14॥
Translation
A son is born from every limb and even from the heart. Therefore, he is dearer to the mother; no other relative is dearer (than a son).

पुत्र (माता-पिता के) अंग-अंग से और हृदय से भी उत्पन्न होता है। इसलिए माता के लिए (पुत्र से) अधिक प्रिय और कोई बन्धु नहीं होता।
English Commentary
Bharata invokes a universal truth about maternal love to highlight the depth of Kausalya's pain. He states that a son is biologically and spiritually born from every limb (anga pratyangajaḥ) and specifically from the heart (hṛdayāc ca api). Because of this intrinsic connection, a son is priyataraḥ (dearer) to a mother than any other relative or friend (bāndhavaḥ). By citing this natural law, Bharata underscores the unnatural cruelty of Kaikeyi’s action—she severed a bond that is physically and emotionally the strongest existence for a mother.

यह श्लोक एक सुभाषित (नीति वचन) की तरह है। भरत यहाँ माता और पुत्र के गहरे जैविक और भावनात्मक संबंध को समझा रहे हैं। वैदिक मान्यता है कि पुत्र पिता और माता के शरीर और आत्मा का विस्तार होता है ('अंगात् अंगात् सम्भवसि...'). भरत यह तर्क देकर कैकेयी को यह महसूस कराना चाहते हैं कि उसने कौसल्या से उसके 'हृदय का टुकड़ा' छीन लिया है। जब एक माँ के लिए पुत्र से बढ़कर कोई प्रिय नहीं होता, तो कौसल्या की पीड़ा की कल्पना करना भी कठिन है। यह कैकेयी की निर्दयता को और गहरा दिखाता है।
