Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तथा तु शपथैः कष्टैः शपमानम् अचेतनम् ।
भरतम् शोक सम्तप्तम् कौसल्या वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-७५-६०॥
tathā tu śapathaiḥ kaṣṭaiḥ śapamānam acetanam । bharatam śoka samtaptam kausalyā vākyam abravīt ॥ ॥2-75-60॥
Translation
To Bharata, who was swearing by such painful oaths, scorched by grief and rendered senseless, Kausalya spoke these words.

इस प्रकार कठोर शपथों द्वारा शपथ खाते हुए, शोक से तपे हुए और (गिरकर) अचेत हुए भरत से कौशल्या ने यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Kausalya's reaction shifts from suspicion to compassion upon seeing the severity of Bharata's oaths (kashtaih shapathaih) and his subsequent fainting. The sight of Bharata lying senseless (acetanam) and burning with grief (shoka santaptam) acts as the final proof of his innocence. No deceiver would torture himself to the point of physical collapse. This verse sets the stage for reconciliation. The harsh interrogation is over; the maternal instinct now takes over as she addresses him not as a traitor, but as a suffering son.
हिंदी टीका
भरत की अवस्था देखकर कौशल्या का मातृ-हृदय पिघल जाता है। 'कष्टैः शपथैः' (कष्टदायक शपथों) से स्पष्ट है कि भरत की बातें सुनकर कौशल्या को भी पीड़ा हो रही थी। जब भरत 'अचेतन' (बेसुध) हो गए, तो कौशल्या का संदेह पूर्णतः समाप्त हो गया। अब उनके मन में केवल वात्सल्य और चिंता है। यह श्लोक दृश्य परिवर्तन का संकेत है—अब तक भरत बोल रहे थे, अब कौशल्या की प्रतिक्रिया आएगी। भरत का शोक सच्चा और गहरा है, जिसने अंततः कौशल्या के हृदय को जीत लिया है।
