विदुषः क्षत्रचारित्रे प्राज्ञस्य प्राप्तकारिणः ।
भयात्प्रवेपे रामस्य चिन्तयन्ती तवात्मजम् ॥ ॥२-८-८॥
Viduṣaḥ kṣatracāritre prājñasya prāptakāriṇaḥ |
Bhayātpravepe rāmasya cintayantī tavātmajam ॥2-8-8॥
Translation
"Rama is learned, skilled in the warrior code, and one who acts promptly when the time is right. Thinking of your son, I tremble with fear of Rama."

"राम विद्वान हैं, क्षत्रिय धर्म (नीति) को जानने वाले हैं और अवसर आने पर तुरंत कार्य करने वाले (प्राप्तकारिणः) हैं। तुम्हारे पुत्र (भरत) के बारे में सोचकर, मैं राम के भय से काँप रही हूँ।"
English Commentary
Manthara weaponizes Rama’s virtues against him. Attributes like 'Prāptakāriṇaḥ' (timely actor) and knowledge of 'Kṣatracāritre' (warrior code/politics) are usually praise. However, Manthara spins them to mean that Rama is a calculating politician who will not hesitate to eliminate a threat. She claims to 'Pravepe' (tremble) with fear. This performance is designed to convince Kaikeyi that Rama is no longer her sweet stepson, but a formidable and ruthless monarch who poses an imminent danger to Bharata.

मंथरा राम के गुणों को ही उनके खिलाफ इस्तेमाल करती है। 'प्राप्तकारिणः' (समय पर सही काम करने वाला) और 'क्षत्रचारित्रे' (क्षत्रिय धर्म/राजनीति जानने वाला) जैसे गुण आम तौर पर प्रशंसा के लिए होते हैं, लेकिन यहाँ मंथरा इनका अर्थ निकालती है कि राम एक कुशल राजनीतिज्ञ हैं जो अपने प्रतिद्वंद्वी (भरत) को खत्म करने में देर नहीं करेंगे। वह कहती है कि वह 'प्रवेपे' (काँप रही है)। यह भय का अभिनय कैकेयी को यह विश्वास दिलाने के लिए है कि राम अब वह भोला बेटा नहीं, बल्कि एक खतरनाक राजा बन चुका है।
