स बाष्प कलया वाचा कल हम्स स्वरः युवा ।
विललाप सभा मध्येजगर्हे च पुरोहितम् ॥ ॥२-८२-१०॥
Sa bāṣpa kalayā vācā kala hamsa svaraḥ yuvā । Vilalāpa sabhā madhye jagarhe ca purohitam ॥ ॥2-82-10॥
Translation
That young man, possessing a voice as sweet as a swan, lamented in the midst of the assembly with a voice choked with tears, and reproached the Purohit.

कलहंस के समान मधुर स्वर वाले उस युवा (भरत) ने आंसुओं से रुंधे गले से सभा के मध्य विलाप किया और पुरोहित (वसिष्ठ) की निंदा (उलाहना) की।
English Commentary
The contrast in this verse is striking: the sweet, melodious voice of a swan (kala hamsa svaraḥ) is choked with tears (bāṣpa kalayā). Bharata represents youth and purity. His action of reproaching (jagarhe) the family priest is significant. In the Vedic context, the Purohit's word is law, yet Bharata defies it because his moral compass points solely to Rama. This marks the beginning of Bharata's counter-argument, establishing him as a moral giant who values fraternal love over imperial power.

यह एक अत्यंत भावुक क्षण है। भरत की तुलना 'कलहंस' (राजहंस) से की गई है, जो अपनी पवित्रता और नीर-क्षीर विवेक के लिए जाना जाता है। 'युवा' शब्द उनकी आयु और सुकुमारता को दर्शाता है। भरत ने न केवल विलाप किया बल्कि गुरु वसिष्ठ को 'जगर्हे' (निंदा की/उलाहना दी)। यह निंदा अपमान नहीं, बल्कि एक सात्विक क्रोध है। भरत को आघात लगा कि उनके गुरु भी उन्हें राज्य हड़पने की सलाह दे रहे हैं, जिसे वे पाप समझते हैं। यह भरत के चरित्र की दृढ़ता है कि वे भरी सभा में कुलगुरु के प्रस्ताव को ठुकराने का साहस करते हैं।
