रामः तथा सत्य धृतिः सताम् धर्मम् अनुस्मरन् ।
न अजहात् पितुर् आदेशम् शशी ज्योत्स्नाम् इव उदितः ॥ ॥२-८२-६॥
Rāmaḥ tathā satya dhṛtiḥ satām dharmam anusmaran । Na ajahāt pitur ādeśam śaśī jyotsnām iva uditaḥ ॥ ॥2-82-6॥
Translation
"So too, Rama, steadfast in truth and remembering the Dharma of the virtuous, did not abandon his father's command, just as the risen moon does not abandon its moonlight."

"तथा सत्यव्रती राम ने भी सत्पुरुषों के धर्म का स्मरण करते हुए, पिता के आदेश को उसी प्रकार नहीं त्यागा, जैसे उदित हुआ चंद्रमा अपनी चांदनी को नहीं त्यागता।"
English Commentary
This is a masterful stroke by Vasistha. He uses Bharata's devotion to Rama as a lever to persuade him. By praising Rama’s adherence to satya (truth) and his refusal to abandon the father’s command, Vasistha creates a logical trap: If Bharata truly wants to emulate Rama's righteousness, he must also obey Dasharatha’s command, which is to become King. The simile of the moon and moonlight emphasizes the inseparable nature of a righteous man and his duty.

वसिष्ठ यहाँ राम का उदाहरण देकर भरत को निरुत्तर करना चाहते हैं। उनका तर्क है: राम ने पिता की आज्ञा मानकर वनवास स्वीकार किया। यदि राम पिता की आज्ञा को 'चांदनी और चंद्रमा' की तरह अटूट मान सकते हैं, तो भरत को भी पिता की आज्ञा (राज्य अभिषेक) माननी चाहिए। यहाँ राम के त्याग को एक 'आदर्श' (Precedent) के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है ताकि भरत भी उसी रास्ते (पिता की आज्ञा पालन) पर चलें, भले ही गंतव्य (वनवास बनाम राजसिंहासन) अलग हो।
