अनेकशतसाहस्रं मुक्ताहारं वराङ्गना ।
अवमुच्य वरार्हाणि शुभान्याभरणानि च ॥२-९-५६॥
anekaśatasāhasraṃ muktāhāraṃ varāṅganā |
avamucya varārhāṇi śubhānyābharaṇāni ca ॥2-9-56॥
Translation
That beautiful woman (Kaikeyi) took off her pearl necklace worth many hundreds of thousands, along with other precious and beautiful ornaments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस वरांगना (सुंदरी कैकेयी) ने अनेक लाख (मूल्य) के मोतियों के हार को, तथा अन्य बहुमूल्य और सुंदर आभूषणों को (अपने शरीर से) उतार दिया।
English Commentary
The Scene: This verse marks a pivotal moment in the Ayodhya Kanda. Manthara has successfully poisoned Kaikeyi's mind against Rama's coronation. To execute her plan and demand the two boons from King Dasharatha, Kaikeyi retreats to the Kopabhavan (The Chamber of Wrath/Sulking Chamber). The Act of Discarding: In ancient Indian royal culture, wearing ornaments signifies auspiciousness (Saubhagya) and joy. By removing her 'priceless pearl necklace' and other 'auspicious ornaments,' Kaikeyi is physically enacting her anger and grief. She is preparing to lay on the floor looking destitute to shock and manipulate the King when he arrives. The Value: The specific mention of the necklace's value (anekaśatasāhasraṃ) highlights the luxury she is voluntarily rejecting to prove the severity of her (manufactured) distress.

यह श्लोक अयोध्याकाण्ड में एक महत्वपूर्ण क्षण का प्रतीक है। मंथरा ने सफलतापूर्वक कैकेयी के मन में राम के राज्याभिषेक के खिलाफ जहर फैका है। अपने योजना को सफल बनाने और राजा दशरथ से दो वर मांगने के लिए, कैकेयी वर्ज्य स्थान (क्रोध कक्ष) में चली जाती हैं। प्राचीन भारतीय शाही संस्कृति में आभूषण पहनना शुभता (सौभाग्य) और आनंद का प्रतीक है। अपनी 'किमती मोतियों की हार' और अन्य 'शुभ आभूषण' उतारकर, कैकेयी अपने क्रोध और दु:ख का शारीरिक प्रदर्शन कर रही हैं। वह जमीन पर लेटने की तैयारी कर रही हैं, ताकि राजा को आते देख वह गरीब-गुरब्बा प्रतीत हों और उन पर प्रभाव डाल सकें। हार के मूल्य (अनेकशतसाहस्रं) का विशिष्ट उल्लेख इस बात को उजागर करता है कि वह स्वेच्छा से उस विलासिता को त्याग रही हैं जो उनके (निर्मित) संकट की गंभीरता को साबित करने के लिए है।
