Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
किं न स्मरसि कैकेयि स्मरन्ती वा निगूहसे ।
यदुच्यमानमात्मार्थं मत्तस्त्वं श्रोतुमिच्छसि ॥२-९-६॥
kiṃ na smarasi kaikeyi smarantī vā nigūhase |
yaducyamānamātmarthaṃ mattastvaṃ śrotumicchasi ॥2-9-6॥
Translation
Why do you not remember Kaikeyi? Are you hiding it even while present? That which is being said for your own benefit, you wish to hear it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम कैकेयी को क्यों नहीं स्मरण करती हो? क्या तुम सन्निकट होते हुए भी इसे छिपा रही हो? जो तुमसे आत्महित से कहा जा रहा है, वह तुम सुनने की आकांक्षा रखती हो।
English Commentary
This verse expresses Manthara's frustration and the sensitivities of the listener. She is questioning Kaikeyi about why she is ignoring the discussion of her own interests. The question highlights that whenever someone presents thoughts for one's own benefit, they should be willing to listen.
