न तु पश्यामि तच्छत्ऺत्रं पाण्डरं लोकसत्कृतम्।
पितुर्दिव्यं महाबाहो संशयो भवतीह मे ॥२-९७-२६॥
na tu paśyāmi tacchattraṃ pāṇḍaraṃ lokasatkṛtam |
piturdivyaṃ mahābāho saṃśayo bhavatīha me ॥2-97-26॥
Translation
However, O mighty-armed one, I do not see that white umbrella, revered by the world, the divine insignia of my father. Hence, a doubt arises in me here.

किन्तु, हे महाबाहु! मुझे पिता का वह श्वेत छत्र नहीं दिखाई दे रहा है जो लोकों में सत्कार प्राप्त है और दिव्य है। इसलिए मुझे यहाँ संशय हो रहा है।
English Commentary
This verse marks a critical turning point in Rama's observation. While the animals belong to the King, Rama notices the glaring absence of the primary royal insignia—the white umbrella (Chhatra). If King Dasharatha were present, the umbrella would undoubtedly be over the chariot. The absence is due to Bharata's refusal to use royal symbols out of deference to Rama, but Rama interprets this anomaly as a cause for "doubt" (samshaya). He senses something is amiss—either his father is not there, or the situation is not what it seems.

यह श्लोक इस सर्ग का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ है। यद्यपि घोड़े और हाथी पिता के हैं, परन्तु श्रीराम देखते हैं कि राजा का सबसे मुख्य चिह्न—'श्वेत छत्र' (Royal Umbrella)—गायब है। यदि राजा दशरथ जीवित और उपस्थित होते, तो छत्र अवश्य होता। भरत, श्रीराम के प्रति सम्मान के कारण, छत्र धारण नहीं कर रहे हैं। श्रीराम के मन में 'संशय' उत्पन्न होता है। यह संशय किसी अनिष्ट की आशंका या स्थिति की अस्पष्टता को लेकर है। राम की यह सूक्ष्म दृष्टि उनकी बुद्धिमत्ता और राजसी प्रोटोकॉल के ज्ञान को दर्शाती है।
