स एष सुमहाकाय: कम्पते वाहिनीमुखे।
नाग: शत्रुञ्जयो नाम वृद्धस्तातस्य धीमत: ॥२-९७-२५॥
sa eṣa sumahākāyaḥ kampate vāhinīmukhe |
nāgaḥ śatruñjayo nāma vṛddhastātasya dhīmataḥ ॥2-97-25॥
Translation
That colossal elephant named Shatrunjaya, the aged mount of our wise father, is moving (swaying) at the head of the army.

सेना के अग्रभाग में हमारे बुद्धिमान पिता का वह विशाल शरीर वाला 'शत्रुंजय' नामक वृद्ध हाथी झूमता हुआ चल रहा है।
English Commentary
Identifying the royal insignia further, Rama spots the colossal elephant Shatrunjaya at the head of the army. This elephant is specifically known to be the aged mount of King Dasharatha. The verb "kampate" describes the swaying motion typical of a moving elephant. Seeing Shatrunjaya solidifies Rama's belief that his father is present. Referring to his father as "dhimataḥ" (wise/intelligent) underscores his reverence. The specific naming of the elephant adds a touch of realism and intimacy to Rama's observation of his former life.

श्रीराम राजचिह्नों की पहचान करते हुए उस विशाल हाथी को देखते हैं जिसका नाम 'शत्रुंजय' है। यह हाथी महाराज दशरथ का विशेष वाहन है और अवस्था में वृद्ध है। 'काम्पते' शब्द हाथी की मदमस्त चाल या वृद्धावस्था के कारण गति में कंपन को दर्शाता है। शत्रुंजय को देखकर श्रीराम का यह विश्वास और दृढ़ हो जाता है कि यह दशरथ की ही सेना है। पिता को 'धीमत:' (बुद्धिमान) कहकर वे उनके प्रति आदर व्यक्त करते हैं। यह श्लोक पुरानी स्मृतियों और राजसी वैभव का स्मरण कराता है।
