अवतीर्य्य तु सालाग्रात्तस्मात्स समितिञ्जय:।
लक्ष्मण: प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा तस्थौ रामस्य पार्श्वत: ॥२-९७-२८॥
avatīryya tu sālāgrāttasmātsa samitiñjayaḥ |
lakṣmaṇaḥ prāñjalirbhūtvā tasthau rāmasya pārśvataḥ ॥2-97-28॥
Translation
Having descended from the top of that Sala tree, Lakshmana, the conqueror in battle, stood by Rama's side with folded hands.

उस साल वृक्ष के अग्रभाग (ऊपर) से उतरकर, युद्ध में विजय प्राप्त करने वाले लक्ष्मण हाथ जोड़कर राम के पास (बगल में) खड़े हो गए।
English Commentary
Lakshmana complies with the implied instruction and descends from his lookout post on the Sala tree. The epithet "Samitinjaya" (victorious in battle) is used for Lakshmana, contrasting his martial prowess with his current posture of humility. Instead of preparing for the fight he earlier anticipated, he now stands "pranjali" (with folded hands) beside Rama. This transition signifies the restoration of discipline and the supremacy of Rama’s judgment over Lakshmana’s impulsive aggression.

श्रीराम की आज्ञा (या स्थिति की गंभीरता) को मानकर लक्ष्मण वृक्ष से नीचे उतर आते हैं। यहाँ लक्ष्मण के लिए 'समितिञ्जय:' (युद्ध में जीतने वाला) विशेषण का प्रयोग हुआ है, जो दर्शाता है कि यद्यपि वे युद्ध के लिए आतुर थे, परन्तु भाई की आज्ञा का पालन करना उनके लिए सबसे बड़ा धर्म है। अब वे आक्रामक मुद्रा त्यागकर 'प्रांजलि' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) विनीत भाव से श्रीराम के पास खड़े हैं। यह उनकी शिष्टता और श्रीराम के प्रति समर्पण का प्रतीक है।
