यावन्न चरणौ भ्रातु: पार्थिवव्यञ्जनान्वितौ।
शिरसा धारयिष्यामि न मे शान्तिर्भविष्यति ॥२-९८-८॥
yāvanna caraṇau bhrātuḥ pārthivavyañjanānvitau |
śirasā dhārayiṣyāmi na me śāntirbhaviṣyati ॥2-98-8॥
Translation
As long as I do not hold on my head the feet of my brother, which are marked with the signs of royalty, there shall be no peace for me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब तक मैं अपने भाई के उन चरणों को, जो राजोचित चिह्नों (ध्वज, वज्र, अंकुश आदि) से युक्त हैं, अपने सिर पर धारण नहीं कर लूँगा, तब तक मुझे शान्ति नहीं मिलेगी।
English Commentary
This is the climax of Bharata's devotional resolve. He yearns to place Rama's feet on his head—an act of ultimate submission and reverence. The mention of "parthiva vyanjana" (royal marks/insignia like the discus or lotus on the soles) is significant; it asserts Rama's natural right to sovereignty. Even without the throne, Rama's very body carries the mandate of kingship. Bharata seeks to physically touch these feet to ground himself and find the peace that has eluded him since hearing of the exile.

यह श्लोक भरत की 'शरणागति' (पूर्ण समर्पण) का परिचायक है। भारतीय संस्कृति में बड़ों के चरण सिर पर धारण करना (प्रणाम करना) सर्वोच्च सम्मान है। 'पार्थिवव्यञ्जनान्वितौ' का अर्थ है कि राम के पैरों में सामुद्रिक शास्त्र के अनुसार चक्र, ध्वज आदि के चिह्न हैं जो सिद्ध करते हैं कि वे ही स्वाभाविक राजा हैं। भरत का यह कथन यह भी स्पष्ट करता है कि वे राम के चरणों में अपना मस्तक झुकाकर यह संदेश देना चाहते हैं कि मुकुट और राज्य राम के चरणों की धूल के समान भी नहीं हैं।
