यावन्न चन्द्रसङ्काशं द्रक्ष्यामि शुभमाननम्।
भ्रातु: पद्मपलाशाक्षं न मे शान्तिर्भविष्यति ॥२-९८-७॥
yāvanna candrasaṅkāśaṃ drakṣyāmi śubhamānanam |
bhrātuḥ padmapalāśākṣaṃ na me śāntirbhaviṣyati ॥2-98-7॥
Translation
As long as I do not see the auspicious face of my brother, which resembles the moon and whose eyes are like lotus petals, there shall be no peace for me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब तक मैं अपने भाई (श्रीराम) के चन्द्रमा के समान (शीतल और आह्लादक) और कमल की पंखुड़ी के समान नेत्रों वाले शुभ मुख को नहीं देख लूँगा, तब तक मुझे शान्ति नहीं मिलेगी।
English Commentary
Bharata focuses on the physical beauty of Rama, which is a reflection of his divine qualities. Describing Rama’s face as moon-like implies it brings relief from the heat of sorrow, and eyes like lotus petals suggest purity and compassion. This is a classic descriptions of the "Nayaka" (hero) in Sanskrit poetry, but here it is drenched in fraternal longing ("Viraha"). Bharata's restlessness can only be cured by the visual darshan of Rama's auspicious countenance, highlighting the intense personal bond they share beyond royal protocols.

इस श्लोक में भरत श्रीराम के रूप-सौन्दर्य का स्मरण करते हैं। उपमाएँ—'चन्द्रसङ्काशं' (चन्द्रमा जैसा) और 'पद्मपलाशाक्षं' (कमल-पत्र जैसे नेत्र)—श्रीराम के सौम्य और सात्विक व्यक्तित्व को रेखांकित करती हैं। भरत को राज-पाट की चिंता नहीं है, उन्हें केवल उस मुख के दर्शन की प्यास है जो सबके मन को शीतलता प्रदान करता है। यह भक्ति-भाव है, जहाँ भक्त (भरत) अपने आराध्य (राम) के दर्शन मात्र से ही जीवन की सार्थकता मानता है।
