धिक् बलम् क्षत्रिय बलम् ब्रह्म तेजो बलम् बलम् ।
एकेन ब्रह्म दण्डेन सर्व अस्त्राणि हतानि मे ॥ ॥१-५६-२३॥
Dhik balam kshatriya balam brahma tejo balam balam |
Ekena brahma daṇḍena sarva astrāṇi hatāni me ॥1-56-23॥
Translation
"Fie upon Kshatriya strength! The strength of Brahma-teja (spiritual radiance) is the only true strength. By a single Brahmadanda, all my weapons have been destroyed."

"क्षत्रिय बल को धिक्कार है! ब्रह्मतेज का बल ही वास्तव में (सच्चा) बल है। (क्योंकि) एक ही ब्रह्मदंड ने मेरे सारे अस्त्रों को नष्ट कर दिया।"
English Commentary
This is the epiphany verse. The phrase 'Dhik balam kshatriya balam' (Shame on Kshatriya/physical strength) is iconic. Vishvamitra realizes the hierarchy of power: Force < Truth. He marvels that a simple wooden staff (Ekena Brahmadandena) nullified his entire celestial arsenal. This is not just defeat; it is enlightenment regarding the nature of reality. It marks the death of King Vishvamitra and the conception of Sage Vishvamitra.

यह रामायण का एक अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध और सारगर्भित श्लोक है। विश्वामित्र स्वीकार करते हैं कि भौतिक शक्ति (Military Might) आध्यात्मिक शक्ति (Spiritual Power) के सामने तुच्छ है। 'धिक्' (धिक्कार) शब्द उनके क्षत्रिय-अहंकार के त्याग का प्रतीक है। 'बलम् बलम्' (बल ही बल है) का दोहराव इस सत्य पर जोर देता है कि आत्मबल ही एकमात्र स्थायी शक्ति है। यह एक राजा के ऋषि बनने की यात्रा का बीज-मंत्र है।
