ततः त्रिशंकोः वचनम् श्रुत्वा क्रोध समन्वितम् ।
ऋषि पुत्र शतम् राम राजानम् इदम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-५७-१॥
Tataḥ triśaṃkoḥ vacanam śrutvā krodha samanvitam |
Ṛṣi putra śatam rāma rājānam idam abravīt ॥1-57-1॥
Translation
Then, hearing the words of Trishanku, the hundred sons of the Rishi, filled with anger, spoke this to the king.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, त्रिशंकु के (हठपूर्वक) वचन सुनकर, ऋषि (वसिष्ठ) के सौ पुत्रों ने क्रोधित होकर राजा (त्रिशंकु) से यह कहा।
English Commentary
The narrative skips forward (bypassing Sarga 57). The focus shifts to King Trishanku. He desired bodily ascension to heaven, was refused by Vasistha, and brashly approached Vasistha's sons to perform the ritual instead. The 'hundred sons' are enraged by this breach of protocol—seeking the sons' help when the father (Guru) has already said no is considered disrespectful. Their anger sets up the curse that turns Trishanku into a Chandal, eventually leading him to Vishvamitra for help.

यहाँ कथा-प्रसंग बदल गया है। विश्वामित्र तपस्या के लिए चले गए हैं। यह घटना 'त्रिशंकु' की है जो सदेह (शरीर के साथ) स्वर्ग जाना चाहता था। वसिष्ठ ने मना कर दिया, तो वह वसिष्ठ के पुत्रों के पास गया। 'ऋषि पुत्र शतम्' (वसिष्ठ के सौ पुत्र) क्रोधित हैं क्योंकि त्रिशंकु अपने गुरु (वसिष्ठ) की आज्ञा का उल्लंघन कर उनके पास आया है, जो शिष्टाचार के विरुद्ध है। यह श्लोक त्रिशंकु के पतन और विश्वामित्र द्वारा उसकी नई सृष्टि की भूमिका (Prologue) है।
