यस्मिन् तु दिवसे राजा चक्रे गो दानम् उत्तमम् ।
तस्मिन् तु दिवसे शूरो युधाजित् समुपेयिवान् ॥ ॥१-७३-१॥
Yasmin tu divase rājā cakre go dānam uttamam । Tasmin tu divase śūro Yudhājit samupeyivān ॥ ॥1-73-1॥
Translation
On the very day the King (Dasharatha) performed the excellent Godan (gift of cows/hair-cutting ceremony), the brave Yudhajit arrived there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिस दिन राजा (दशरथ) ने (पुत्रों का) उत्तम गोदान संस्कार किया, उसी दिन शूरवीर युधाजित वहां आ पहुंचे।
English Commentary
This verse introduces a new arrival during the pre-wedding rituals. Specifically, on the day Dasharatha is performing the Godan ceremony (a rite of passage involving hair cutting and gifting cows to Brahmins) for his sons, Yudhajit arrives. Yudhajit is a significant figure as he represents the Kekaya kingdom, the maternal lineage of Bharata. His arrival is serendipitous, adding to the gathering of relatives for the grand event. The timing is noted precisely to show the bustle of activity.

यहाँ प्रसंग थोड़ा आगे बढ़ता है (बालकाण्ड के अगले सर्गों की ओर)। दशरथ अपने पुत्रों का 'गोदान' संस्कार (विवाह पूर्व का एक संस्कार, जिसे केशान्त भी कहते हैं) कर रहे हैं। उसी दिन 'युधाजित' का आगमन होता है। युधाजित कैकेयी के भाई और भरत के मामा हैं। उन्हें 'शूर' (वीर) विशेषण दिया गया है। विवाह के उत्सव के बीच ननिहाल पक्ष (मामा) का आना अत्यंत शुभ माना जाता है, लेकिन उनका आना एक संयोग था, वे निमंत्रण पर नहीं आए थे (जैसा आगे स्पष्ट होगा)।
