गुणात् रूप गुणात् च अपि प्रीतिः भूयो अभिवर्धते ।
तस्याः च भर्ता द्विगुणम् हृदये परिवर्तते ॥ ॥१-७७-२७॥
Guṇāt rūpa guṇāt ca api prītiḥ bhūyo abhivardhate |
Tasyāḥ ca bhartā dviguṇam hṛdaye parivartate ॥1-77-27॥
Translation
Due to her virtues and the quality of her beauty, his love for her grew increasingly. And in her heart too, her husband dwelt with twofold intensity.

सीता के गुणों और उनके रूप-सौंदर्य के कारण राम का प्रेम उनके प्रति बढ़ता ही गया। और उस (सीता) के हृदय में भी उनके पति (राम) पहले से दोगुने उत्साह और प्रेम के साथ बसने लगे।
English Commentary
What fuels the growth of love? Valmiki identifies two factors: Guna (virtues/character) and Rupa-guna (the excellence of beauty). Rama’s love for Sita increased daily because she possessed a rare combination of physical radiance and internal nobility. Love grounded in virtue is shown to be ever-expanding (abhivardhate). The reaction in Sita is equally profound. The text says the husband dwelt "doubly" (dviguṇam) in her heart. This implies a feedback loop of affection; sensing Rama's growing love, Sita's devotion multiplied. It suggests a state of constant meditation where she held him in her heart with an intensity that far exceeded ordinary attachment.

प्रेम का आधार क्या हो? वाल्मीकि जी बताते हैं—'गुण' और 'रूप'। सीता केवल सुंदरी नहीं थीं, वे गुणवान भी थीं। जब बाहरी सुंदरता के साथ आंतरिक पवित्रता मिलती है, तो प्रेम 'अभिवर्धते' (निरंतर बढ़ता है)। शारीरिक आकर्षण समय के साथ ढल सकता है, लेकिन गुणों पर आधारित प्रेम सदैव नूतन रहता है। दूसरी पंक्ति सीता की मनोदशा का अद्भुत चित्रण करती है। राम का प्रेम पाकर सीता के हृदय में राम का स्थान 'द्विगुणम्' (दोगुना) हो गया। इसका अर्थ है कि सीता हर पल, निरंतर राम का ही चिंतन करती थीं। पति का प्रेम पत्नी के समर्पण को और गहरा कर देता है।
