Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मनस्वी तद् गतमानस्य तस्या हृदि समर्पितः ।
प्रिया तु सीता रामस्य दाराः पितृ कृता इति ॥ ॥१-७७-२६॥
Manasvī tad gatamānasya tasyā hṛdi samarpitaḥ |
Priyā tu sītā rāmasya dārāḥ pitṛ kṛtā iti ॥1-77-26॥
Translation
The wise Rama was entirely dedicated to her in his heart, and her mind was fixed upon him. Sita was dear to Rama not only because she was the wife chosen by his father, but also for her own sake.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बुद्धिमान (मनस्वी) राम का हृदय सीता में बसा था और सीता का मन राम में। सीता राम को इसलिए प्रिय थीं क्योंकि वे पिता द्वारा चुनी गई पत्नी थीं, और अपने गुणों के कारण भी वे राम को अत्यंत प्रिय थीं।
English Commentary
This verse beautifully synthesizes two aspects of traditional marriage: duty towards tradition and personal affection. Sita is described as Pitri-krita (chosen/made by the father), implying that Rama cherished her partly because accepting her was an act of obedience to his father, thus upholding Dharma. However, the verse explicitly states this was not the only reason. Rama, described as Manasvi (thoughtful/wise), was deeply in love with her personally. The reciprocity is poetic: her mind was absorbed in him, and his heart was dedicated to her. It portrays a relationship where arranged duty evolved seamlessly into profound, soulful intimacy.

यह श्लोक भारतीय विवाह पद्धति के दो सुंदर पक्षों का संगम है: 'पितृ कृता' (पिता द्वारा निश्चित संबंध) और व्यक्तिगत प्रेम। राम सीता से इसलिए प्रेम करते थे क्योंकि यह विवाह उनके पिता दशरथ की आज्ञा और सहमति से हुआ था—यह धर्म का पक्ष है। किंतु, प्रेम का कारण केवल कर्तव्य नहीं था। राम 'मनस्वी' (विवेकी) थे और उन्होंने सीता के गुणों को पहचाना था। दोनों के हृदय एक-दूसरे में समर्पित थे। यह एकतरफा प्रेम नहीं था; जहाँ सीता का मन राम में 'गत' (लीन) था, वहीं राम ने भी अपना हृदय उन्हें 'समर्पित' कर दिया था। यह दांपत्य जीवन की पूर्णता को दर्शाता है।
