शक्यम् अंबरम् आरुह्य मेघ सोपान पंक्तिभिः ।
कुटज अर्जुन मालाभिः अलंकर्तुम् दिवाकरम् ॥ ॥४-२८-४॥
śakyam ambaram āruhya megha sopāna paṃktibhiḥ । kuṭaja arjuna mālābhiḥ alaṃkartum divākaram ॥ ॥4-28-4॥
Translation
It seems possible to ascend the sky using the rows of clouds as stairs and adorn the Sun God with garlands of Kutaja and Arjuna flowers.

ऐसा लगता है कि मेघों की सीढ़ियों द्वारा आकाश में चढ़कर, कुटज और अर्जुन के पुष्पों की मालाओं से सूर्यदेव को अलंकृत किया जा सकता है।
English Commentary
Rama’s poetic imagination envisions the layered clouds as a staircase ('sopāna') leading up to the heavens. The density and vertical formation of the clouds make the sky seem accessible. He imagines climbing these celestial stairs to offer a garland of 'Kutaja' and 'Arjuna' flowers—blooms specific to the rainy season—to the Sun God (Divakara). This is significant as the Sun is the progenitor of Rama's lineage (Suryavansha). The imagery suggests a vertical connection between the earthly devotee and the divine. Despite his sorrow, Rama’s instinct is to offer beauty and reverence. The verse captures the lushness of the season (abundant flowers) and the architectural grandeur of the monsoon sky. It is a moment of aesthetic appreciation where the physical landscape (clouds) becomes a bridge to a spiritual act (worshiping the Sun).

श्री राम की कल्पना यहाँ अत्यंत उच्च कोटि की है। आकाश में बादलों की परतें एक के ऊपर एक इस प्रकार जमी हैं कि वे सीढ़ियों (सोपान) जैसी प्रतीत होती हैं। राम को लगता है कि इन सीढ़ियों पर चढ़कर सूर्य तक पहुँचा जा सकता है। 'कुटज' और 'अर्जुन' वर्षा ऋतु में खिलने वाले प्रमुख पुष्प हैं। राम की इच्छा है कि वे सूर्य को, जो उनके कुलदेवता भी हैं, इन पुष्पों की माला पहनाएं। यह श्लोक बादलों के घनत्व और उनकी ऊँचाई का चित्रात्मक वर्णन करता है। साथ ही, यह राम की भक्ति और सात्विक मनोदशा को भी दर्शाता है। यद्यपि वे वियोग में हैं, फिर भी प्रकृति की सुंदरता उन्हें ईश्वर (सूर्य) के पूजन के लिए प्रेरित करती है। 'मेघ सोपान' (बादलों की सीढ़ियाँ) एक अत्यंत सुंदर रूपक है जो आकाश और पृथ्वी के बीच की दूरी को कम करता हुआ प्रतीत होता है।
