अनेक शत साहस्त्रीम् विषण्णाम् हरि वाहिनीम् ।
जाम्बवान् समुदीक्ष्य एवम् हनुमन्तम् अथ अब्रवीत् ॥४-६६-१॥
aneka śata sāhasrīm viṣaṇṇām hari vāhinīm |
jāmbavān samudīkṣya evam hanumantam atha abravīt ॥4-66-1॥
Translation
Observing that army of monkeys, numbering several hundred thousand, sitting dejected, Jambavan then spoke to Hanuman in this manner.

कई लाख वानरों की उस सेना को विषादग्रस्त (हताश) देखकर, जाम्बवान ने तब हनुमान जी से इस प्रकार कहा।
English Commentary
The scene shifts to the beginning of Sarga 66. The other monkeys have declared their limitations, and the collective mood is 'vishannam' (deeply dejected) because no one feels fully capable of the 100-yojana leap. In this crisis, Jambavan, the wise elder, shifts his focus from the noisy, despairing crowd to the one warrior who has remained silent. This verse highlights Jambavan's insight; he recognizes that the solution lies not in the collective panic but in the reserved strength of Hanuman. It marks the pivotal narrative turn from hopelessness to the awakening of the savior.

यहाँ दृश्य बदलता है और सर्ग ६६ का आरम्भ होता है। अन्य सभी वानर अपनी-अपनी सीमाएँ बता चुके हैं, और कोई भी १०० योजन पार करने में पूर्णतः समर्थ नहीं है। पूरी सेना 'विषण्णाम्' (घोर निराशा में) है। इस संकट की घड़ी में, अनुभवी और वृद्ध जाम्बवान की दृष्टि उस एक वीर पर पड़ती है जो अब तक मौन है। यह श्लोक जाम्बवान की सूक्ष्म दृष्टि को दर्शाता है—जहाँ पूरी भीड़ शोर और हताशा में है, वे उस 'छुपी हुई शक्ति' (हनुमान) को पहचान लेते हैं जो चुपचाप बैठी है। यह हताशा से आशा की ओर संक्रमण का क्षण है।
