वीर वानर लोकस्य सर्व शास्त्र विदाम् वर ।
तूष्णीम् एकान्तम् आश्रित्य हनुमन् किम् न जल्पसि ॥४-६६-२॥
vīra vānara lokasya sarva śāstra vidām vara |
tūṣṇīm ekāntam āśritya hanuman kim na jalpasi ॥4-66-2॥
Translation
"O Hero of the Vanara world! O best among those knowledgeable in all scriptures! Hanuman, resorting to solitude in a corner, why do you stand silent? Why do you not speak?"

"हे वानर लोक के वीर! हे सर्वशास्त्रवेत्ताओं में श्रेष्ठ! हनुमान, तुम एकान्त का आश्रय लेकर चुप क्यों बैठे हो? तुम कुछ बोलते क्यों नहीं?"
English Commentary
Jambavan addresses Hanuman not just as a warrior, but as 'sarva shastra vidam vara' (the best among knowers of all scriptures). This is significant as it characterizes Hanuman as an intellectual and disciplined figure, not merely a brute force. His silence is born of deep humility and the curse that made him forget his own might, not out of fear. Jambavan's question, "Why do you not speak?", serves as the catalyst. It is the gentle prodding of a mentor urging a disciple to step out of the shadows of modesty when duty demands leadership.

जाम्बवान हनुमान जी को केवल बलशाली नहीं, बल्कि 'सर्व शास्त्र विदाम् वर' (शास्त्रों के ज्ञान में श्रेष्ठ) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। यह अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह दर्शाता है कि हनुमान केवल शारीरिक बल के पुंज नहीं हैं, बल्कि ज्ञानी और विनीत भी हैं। उनकी चुप्पी अज्ञानता या भय के कारण नहीं, बल्कि उनकी नैसर्गिक विनम्रता और अपनी शक्ति के विस्मरण (शापवश) के कारण है। जाम्बवान का प्रश्न 'किम् न जल्पसि' (क्यों नहीं बोलते) एक गुरु या पिता तुल्य स्नेह से भरा है जो शिष्य को उसकी संकोच की स्थिति से बाहर निकालना चाहता है।
