वसन्तपुष्पोत्करचारुदर्शनम् ।
वसन्तमासादपि कान्तदर्शनम् ।
स पुष्पकम् तत्र विमानमुत्तमम् ।
ददर्श तद्वानरवीरसत्तमः ॥ ॥५-९-१॥
Vasantapuṣpotkaracārudarśanam । Vasantamāsādapi kāntadarśanam । Sa puṣpakam tatra vimānamuttamam । Dadarśa tadvānaravīrasattamaḥ ॥ ॥5-9-1॥
Translation
That best among monkey heroes (Hanuman) saw there the excellent aerial chariot Pushpaka, which looked as beautiful as a heap of spring flowers and was even more lovely to behold than the month of Spring itself.

वसन्त ऋतु के फूलों के ढेर के समान सुंदर दिखने वाले और वसन्त के महीने से भी अधिक मनमोहक, उस उत्तम पुष्पक विमान को वानरवीरों में श्रेष्ठ हनुमान जी ने वहाँ देखा।

यह श्लोक रावण के पुष्पक विमान की अलौकिक सुंदरता और हनुमान जी द्वारा उसके प्रथम दर्शन का वर्णन करता है। वाल्मीकि रावण के वैभव का चित्रण करने के लिए प्रकृति के सबसे सुंदर उपादान 'वसन्त' का प्रयोग करते हैं। विमान की तुलना 'वसन्तपुष्पोत्कर' (वसन्त के फूलों के ढेर) से की गई है, जो इसकी रंग-बिरंगी, सजीव और आह्लादकारी छवि को दर्शाता है। कवि यहाँ तक कहते हैं कि यह विमान स्वयं 'वसन्त मास' से भी अधिक कान्त (सुंदर) था। यह उपमा न केवल विमान की भौतिक सुंदरता को, बल्कि उसके द्वारा उत्पन्न सुखद वातावरण को भी इंगित करती है। 'वानरवीरसत्तमः' विशेषण का प्रयोग हनुमान जी के लिए किया गया है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि ऐसी अद्भुत वस्तु को देखने वाला कोई साधारण व्यक्ति नहीं, बल्कि एक श्रेष्ठ और विवेकी वीर है, जो सौंदर्य के प्रभाव में आए बिना अपने लक्ष्य के प्रति सचेत है। विमान का सौंदर्य रावण के ऎश्वर्य का प्रतीक है, जो देवताओं को भी दुर्लभ था।
