Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रीयते सततं रामः स हि विष्णुः सनातनः ।
आदिदेवो महाबाहुर्हरिर्नारायणः प्रभुः ॥६-१३१-११९॥ साक्षाद्रामो रघुश्रेष्ठः शेषो लक्ष्मण उच्यते ॥ ॥६-१३१-११९॥
prīyate satataṃ rāmaḥ sa hi viṣṇuḥ sanātanaḥ |
ādidēvō mahābāhur-harir-nārāyaṇaḥ prabhuḥ |
|
sākṣādrāmō raghuśrēṣṭhaḥ śēṣō lakṣmaṇa ucyatē ॥6-131-119॥
Translation
Shri Rama is perpetually pleased, for He is indeed the eternal Vishnu. He is the primordial God, the mighty-armed Hari, the Lord Narayana. Shri Rama, the best of the Raghus, is Narayana Himself, and Lakshmana is said to be Shesha.
हिंदी अनुवाद
भगवान श्री राम सदा प्रसन्न रहते हैं, क्योंकि वे ही सनातन विष्णु हैं। वे ही आदिदेव, महाबाहु, हरि और प्रभु नारायण हैं। रघुकुल श्रेष्ठ श्री राम साक्षात् नारायण हैं और लक्ष्मण को शेषनाग कहा जाता है।
English Commentary
This verse is a 'Mahavakya' (supreme statement) of the Ramayana. It explicitly declares the true identity hidden behind Shri Rama's human form—that He is Vishnu and Narayana. Identifying Lakshmana as 'Shesha' (the infinite serpent) reveals the eternal bond between them that exists from Vaikuntha to earth. This is the ultimate subject of faith and meditation for devotees.

यह श्लोक श्री रामायण का 'महावाक्य' है। यहाँ श्री राम के मानवी रूप के पीछे छिपे उनके वास्तविक स्वरूप—विष्णु और नारायण—की स्पष्ट घोषणा की गई है। लक्ष्मण जी को 'शेष' (अनंत नाग) बताना उनके बीच के उस शाश्वत सम्बन्ध को प्रकट करता है जो वैकुण्ठ से लेकर पृथ्वी तक साथ रहता है। यह भक्तों के लिए परम श्रद्धा और ध्यान का विषय है।
