सागरस्योत्तरे तीरेऽब्रुवं ते वचनं यथा ।
यथासंदेशमक्लिष्टं सान्त्वयञ्श्लक्ष्णया गिरा ॥६-२४-२८॥
sāgarasyottare tīre'bruvaṃ te vacanaṃ yathā |
yathāsaṃdeśamakliṣṭaṃ sāntvayañślākṣṇayā girā ॥6-24-28॥
Translation
'On the northern shore of the ocean, I delivered your message exactly as instructed, without distortion or trouble, consoling (Sugriva) with smooth/gentle words.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'सागर के उत्तरी तट पर (जाकर) मैंने आपका संदेश जैसा का तैसा (यथासंदेश), बिना किसी त्रुटि/कष्ट के, मधुर वाणी से सांत्वना देते हुए (सुग्रीव से) कहा था।'
English Commentary
Shuka defends his competence. Ravana had mocked his battered state, so Shuka clarifies that he executed the mission faithfully, delivering the message exactly as commanded using diplomatic language. The violent reaction of the monkeys was beyond his control, not a failure of his duty.

शुक रावण को अपनी सफाई दे रहा है। रावण ने उसकी 'टूटी हुई हालत' (सफेद/टूटे पंख) पर व्यंग्य किया था, तो शुक स्पष्ट करता है कि उसने अपना काम ईमानदारी से किया था। उसने संदेश सही पहुँचाया था, लेकिन वानरों की प्रतिक्रिया (मारपीट) उसके नियंत्रण से बाहर थी।
