Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मंगलानि प्रयुञ्जाना मुदा परमया युता ।
मूलम् पुष्पम् फलम् सर्वम् आश्रमम् च महात्मनः ॥३-१-१७॥
maṅgalāni prayuñjānā mudā paramayā yutā |
mūlam puṣpam phalam sarvam āśramam ca mahātmanaḥ ॥3-1-17॥
Translation
With supreme joy and chanting auspicious blessings, the high-souled sages offered roots, flowers, fruits, and the entire hermitage to the High-Souled One (Rama).

परम हर्ष से युक्त होकर और मंगल कामना करते हुए उन महात्माओं ने (राम को) कंद-मूल, पुष्प, फल और अपना संपूर्ण आश्रम ही अर्पित कर दिया।
English Commentary
This represents total surrender ('Atma-nivedana'). The sages offered not just the produce of the forest (roots, flowers, fruits) but 'sarvam āśramam'—the entire hermitage itself. This gesture signifies that they recognize Rama as the Sovereign Authority; thus, the land and the dwellings ultimately belong to him. They are merely caretakers. The act was performed with 'mudā paramayā' (supreme joy), indicating that giving up their sanctuary to Rama was a privilege, not a burden. It establishes the relationship between the spiritual authority (Brahmins/Sages) and the temporal authority (Kshatriya/King)—the former honors the latter as the protector.

यह 'आत्म-निवेदन' (पूर्ण समर्पण) का भाव है। ऋषियों ने केवल भोजन (मूल, फल) नहीं दिया, बल्कि 'सर्वम् आश्रमम् च'—अपना पूरा आश्रम ही राम को सौंप दिया। इसके पीछे का भाव यह है कि राम ही इस भूमि के स्वामी (राजा) हैं और ऋषि केवल वहाँ के निवासी। राजा के आगमन पर प्रजा अपना सब कुछ उनके संरक्षण में मानती है। 'मुदा परमया युता' (परम हर्ष के साथ) यह दर्शाता है कि यह त्याग किसी दबाव में नहीं, बल्कि अपार प्रेम और श्रद्धा के कारण किया गया। महात्माओं (ऋषियों) ने महात्मा (राम) का सत्कार अपनी सर्वश्रेष्ठ संपत्ति—अपने तपोवन—से किया।
