Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेन शापम् न मुंचामो भक्ष्यमाणाः च राक्षसैः ।
तद् अर्द्यमानान् रक्षोभिः दण्डकारण्य वासिभिः ॥ ॥३-१०-१५॥
Tena śāpam na muṃcāmo bhakṣyamāṇāḥ ca rākṣasaiḥ । Tad ardyamānān rakṣobhiḥ daṇḍakāraṇya vāsibhiḥ ॥ ॥3-10-15॥
Translation
“That is why, even while being devoured by the Rakshasas, we do not release a curse. Therefore, protect us who are being tormented by the Rakshasas dwelling in the Dandakaranya.”
हिंदी अनुवाद
“यही कारण है कि राक्षसों द्वारा खाए जाने पर भी हम उन्हें शाप नहीं देते। इसलिए, दंडकारण्य में रहने वाले राक्षसों द्वारा पीड़ित हम लोगों की (आप रक्षा करें)।”
English Commentary
This verse highlights the extreme restraint of the ascetics. Even in the horrific act of being 'bhakshyamana' (being eaten), they refuse to release a curse ('shapam na munchamo'). This illustrates a profound spiritual discipline where the preservation of inner spiritual energy (Tapas) takes precedence over physical survival. It underscores the symbiotic relationship between the Brahmana (spiritual power) and Kshatriya (temporal power); the sages need Rama's physical protection precisely because they refuse to compromise their spiritual vows of non-violence.

यहाँ ऋषियों की सहनशीलता की पराकाष्ठा का वर्णन है। 'भक्ष्यमाणाः' (खाए जाते हुए) स्थिति में भी 'शापम् न मुंचामो' (शाप नहीं छोड़ते) कहना उनकी तपस्या के प्रति निष्ठा को दर्शाता है। वे शरीर के नाश को स्वीकार कर सकते हैं, लेकिन क्रोध के वशीभूत होकर अपने तप का नाश स्वीकार नहीं कर सकते। यह श्लोक क्षत्रिय की आवश्यकता को सिद्ध करता है—समाज में एक वर्ग ऐसा होना चाहिए जो शस्त्र उठाए, ताकि जो लोग अहिंसा और साधना के उच्च मार्ग पर हैं, उन्हें आत्मरक्षा के लिए अपने सिद्धांतों से समझौता न करना पड़े।
