हितम् उक्तम् त्वया देवि स्निग्धया सदृशम् वचः ।
कुलम् व्यपदिशन्त्या च धर्मज्ञे जनक आत्मजे ॥३-१०-२॥
hitam uktam tvayā devi snigdhayā sadṛśam vacaḥ |
kulam vyapadiśantyā ca dharmajñe janaka ātmaje ॥3-10-2॥
Translation
O Devi! O Knower of Dharma! O Daughter of Janaka! You have spoken beneficial words that are affectionate and worthy of your lineage.

हे देवि! हे धर्मज्ञे! हे जनकनंदिनी! तुमने अपने कुल के अनुरूप और स्नेह से युक्त हितकारी वचन कहे हैं।
English Commentary
Rama begins his rebuttal by praising Sita. Before countering her arguments, he validates her intent and intellect. By using the epithets 'Janaka atmaje' (Daughter of Janaka) and 'dharmajney' (Knower of Dharma), Rama acknowledges that her wisdom stems from her father, the philosopher-king Janaka. He states that her words are 'sadrisham' (worthy/appropriate)—implying that this is exactly how a noble wife should speak. This reflects the Indian tradition of debate where the opponent's view (Purvapaksha) is first respectfully acknowledged.

श्रीराम अपने उत्तर का आरम्भ सीता जी की प्रशंसा से करते हैं। वे सीता जी के तर्कों को खारिज करने से पहले उनकी नीयत और बुद्धिमत्ता का सम्मान करते हैं। 'जनक आत्मजे' (जनक की पुत्री) और 'धर्मज्ञे' (धर्म को जानने वाली) विशेषणों का प्रयोग करके श्रीराम यह स्वीकार करते हैं कि सीता जी का ज्ञान उनके पिता, राजर्षि जनक, से आया है, जो ब्रह्मज्ञानी थे। श्रीराम कहते हैं कि सीता जी के वचन 'सदृशम्' (अनुरूप) हैं—अर्थात एक कुलीन पत्नी को ऐसा ही बोलना चाहिए। यह 'पूर्वपक्ष' का सम्मान है, जो भारतीय वाद-विवाद परंपरा का हिस्सा है।
