Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अनुक्तेन अपि वैदेहि प्रतिज्ञाय कथम् पुनः ।
मम स्नेहात् च सौहार्दात् इदम् उक्तम् त्वया वचः ॥ ॥३-१०-२०॥
Anuktena api vaidehi pratijñāya katham punaḥ । Mama snehāt ca sauhārdāt idam uktam tvayā vacaḥ ॥ ॥3-10-20॥
Translation
“O Vaidehi, when (it is my duty) even without being asked, how much more so after promising? You spoke these words out of affection and friendship for me.”
हिंदी अनुवाद
“हे वैदेही! जब बिना कहे भी (रक्षा करना मेरा धर्म है), तो प्रतिज्ञा करने के बाद तो कहना ही क्या? तुमने मेरे प्रति स्नेह और सौहार्द (मित्रता) के कारण ये वचन कहे थे।”
English Commentary
Rama softens his tone, validating Sita’s intent. He acknowledges that her counsel stemmed from 'Sneha' (love) and 'Sauharda' (friendship/good-heartedness), not defiance. He explains that protecting the distressed is his duty even 'anuktena' (without being asked/promised); the vow ('pratijñaya') simply makes it irrevocable. This verse showcases the healthy dynamic of their relationship—dissent is expressed out of care and received with understanding.

राम यहाँ सीता के मन को सांत्वना देते हैं। वे जानते हैं कि सीता की बातें उनके भले के लिए थीं, न कि उनके विरोध में। वे सीता के वचनों का मूल कारण 'स्नेह' और 'सौहार्द' बताते हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि राम आलोचना या विपरीत सलाह को भी सकारात्मक दृष्टि से देखते हैं यदि वह प्रेम से दी गई हो। 'वैदेही' संबोधन सीता के विदेह-राज कुल के ज्ञान और विवेक को सम्मान देता है।
