Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यद् ईदृशैः अहम् विप्रैः उपस्थेयैः उपस्थितः ।
किम् करोमि इति च मया व्याहृतम् द्विज संनिधौ ॥ ॥३-१०-९॥
Yad īdṛśaiḥ aham vipraiḥ upastheyaiḥ upasthitaḥ । Kim karomi iti ca mayā vyāhṛtam dvija saṃnidhau ॥ ॥3-10-9॥
Translation
"That I have been approached by such Vipras (Brahmins), who are worthy of my worship, (is a matter of shame)." Then I asked in the presence of those twice-borns, "What shall I do?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"कि मैं ऐसे विप्रों (ब्राह्मणों) द्वारा, जो स्वयं मेरे द्वारा पूजनीय हैं, (शरणार्थी के रूप में) उपस्थित किया गया हूँ।" उन द्विजों के समीप मैंने पूछा— "मैं क्या करूँ?"
English Commentary
Rama elucidates the inversion of hierarchy that causes his shame. The Vipras are 'upastheyaih'—those who should be waited upon or worshipped by the King. Instead, they have 'upasthitah' (approached/waited upon) him. This disrupts the Dharmic balance. By asking "Kim karomi" (What shall I do?), Rama places his military prowess at the disposal of spiritual wisdom. He does not presume to know the solution but offers himself as an instrument to execute their will, reinforcing the ideal Kshatriya-Brahmin relationship.

श्रीराम अपनी लज्जा का कारण स्पष्ट करते हैं। सामाजिक और धार्मिक पदानुक्रम में ब्राह्मण और ऋषि 'उपस्थेय' (सेवा/पूजा करने योग्य) हैं, और क्षत्रिय सेवक है। जब पूज्य व्यक्ति को पूजक के पास याचना लेकर आना पड़े, तो यह धर्म की ग्लानि है। 'किम् करोमि' (मैं क्या करूँ) पूछकर राम स्वयं निर्णय लेने के बजाय ऋषियों के निर्देश का पालन करने की तत्परता दिखाते हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि उनकी शक्ति और शस्त्र ऋषियों के अनुशासन और विवेक के अधीन हैं।
