Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततो भुक्तवताम् तेषाम् विप्राणाम् इल्वलो अब्रवीत् ।
वातापे निष्क्रमस्व इति स्वरेण महता वदन् ॥ ॥३-११-५८॥
tato bhuktavatām teṣām viprāṇām ilvalo abravīt । vātāpe niṣkramasva iti svareṇa mahatā vadan ॥ ॥3-11-58॥
Translation
Then, after those Brahmins had eaten, Ilvala, speaking in a loud voice, would say, "O Vatapi, come out!"
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन ब्राह्मणों के भोजन कर लेने के पश्चात, इल्वल ऊँचे स्वर में पुकारकर कहता था—'हे वातापि! अब बाहर निकल आओ'।
English Commentary
The trap is sprung. Once the meal was consumed, Ilvala would drop the pretense and call out to his brother. The loud voice ("svarena mahata") signifies his arrogance and the terror he intended to inflict. It marks the transition from a peaceful ritual atmosphere to a scene of supernatural horror. The command "Come out" is the trigger for the lethal mechanism the brothers had devised to kill the sages from within.

भोजन समाप्त होने के बाद इल्वल का असली रूप सामने आता था। 'स्वरेण महता' (ऊँचे स्वर में) पुकारना उसकी विजय और अहंकार का प्रतीक था। वह जानता था कि ऋषि अब असहाय हैं। यह क्षण अत्यंत तनावपूर्ण होता था, क्योंकि अतिथि ब्राह्मण जो तृप्ति का अनुभव कर रहे थे, अचानक मृत्यु के आह्वान को सुनते थे। यह विश्वासघात का वह क्षण था जब रक्षक (मेजबान) भक्षक बन जाता था।
