ततो भ्रातुर् वचः श्रुत्वा वातापिः मेषवत् नदन् ।
भित्त्वा भित्वा शरीराणि ब्राह्मणानाम् विनिष्पतत् ॥ ॥३-११-५९॥
tato bhrātur vacaḥ śrutvā vātāpiḥ meṣavat nadan । bhittvā bhittvā śarīrāṇi brāhmaṇānām viniṣpatat ॥ ॥3-11-59॥
Translation
Then, hearing his brother's words, Vatapi, bleating like a ram, would come out, tearing through the bodies of the Brahmins.

तब भाई का वचन सुनकर, वातापि भेड़ की तरह मिमियाता हुआ, ब्राह्मणों के शरीरों को फाड़-फाड़ कर बाहर निकल आता था।
English Commentary
The graphic nature of the violence is described vividly. Upon the signal, Vatapi would revive inside the stomachs of the Brahmins. The detail "bleating like a ram" adds a macabre touch to the supernatural horror. "Bhittva bhittva" (tearing and tearing) emphasizes the violent rupture of the bodies, leading to an agonizing death for the sages. This illustrates the physical invulnerability and magical powers of the demons, against which ordinary physical strength was useless.

यह दृश्य अत्यंत वीभत्स और भयानक है। वातापि पेट के अंदर जीवित हो जाता था और 'मेषवत् नदन्' (भेड़ की तरह आवाज करता हुआ) ऋषियों के शरीर को चीरकर ('भित्त्वा भित्तवा') बाहर निकलता था। शब्द 'भित्त्वा' की द्विरुक्ति (दो बार प्रयोग) यह दर्शाती है कि वह प्रत्येक ब्राह्मण के शरीर को विदीर्ण कर देता था। यह केवल हत्या नहीं थी, बल्कि ऋषियों को शारीरिक और मानसिक रूप से प्रताड़ित करने का एक पैशाचिक खेल था।
