ब्राह्मणानाम् सहस्राणि तैः एवम् काम रूपिभिः ।
विनाशितानि संहत्य नित्यशः पिशित अशनैः ॥ ॥३-११-६०॥
brāhmaṇānām sahasrāṇi taiḥ evam kāma rūpibhiḥ । vināśitāni saṃhatya nityaśaḥ piśita aśanaiḥ ॥ ॥3-11-60॥
Translation
In this manner, thousands of Brahmins were destroyed by those flesh-eaters who could change their forms at will, banding together daily.

इस प्रकार उन इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले मांसभक्षी (राक्षसों) ने मिलकर नित्य इसी उपाय से हजारों ब्राह्मणों का विनाश कर दिया।
English Commentary
This verse summarizes the scale of the genocide. It wasn't an isolated incident; "thousands" of intellectuals and spiritual seekers were systematically eliminated. The demons are described as "Kama rupibhih" (shape-shifters) and "Pishita ashanaih" (flesh-eaters), highlighting their deceptive and savage nature. The repetition of this act "daily" (nityashah) shows the helplessness of the ascetic community in the Dandaka forest before Agastya's intervention.

यहाँ उस त्रासदी की व्यापकता बताई गई है। 'सहस्राणि' (हजारों) की संख्या बताती है कि यह तांडव लंबे समय तक चला। 'कामरूपिभिः' (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने वाले) होने के कारण उन्हें पहचानना असंभव था। 'संहत्य' का अर्थ है कि दोनों भाई मिलकर यह काम करते थे। यह श्लोक उस पृष्ठभूमि को तैयार करता है कि क्यों देवताओं को अंततः अगस्त्य मुनि से प्रार्थना करनी पड़ी। यह साधारण अपराध नहीं था, बल्कि धर्म का व्यवस्थित विनाश था।
