Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अभिवादये त्वाम् भगवन् सुखम् स्म उष्यतो निशाम् ।
आमंत्रये त्वाम् गच्छामि गुरुम् ते द्रष्टुम् अग्रजम् ॥ ॥३-११-७२॥
abhivādaye tvām bhagavan sukham sma uṣyato niśām । āmantraye tvām gacchāmi gurum te draṣṭum agrajam ॥ ॥3-11-72॥
Translation
I salute you, O Lord. We have dwelt happily here for the night. I ask your permission to leave; I am going to see your elder brother and Guru.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे भगवन्! मैं आपको प्रणाम करता हूं। हमने यहां रात भर सुखपूर्वक निवास किया। अब मैं आपसे (जाने की) अनुमति मांगता हूं; मैं आपके बड़े भाई और गुरु (अगस्त्य) के दर्शन करने जा रहा हूं।
English Commentary
Rama speaks politely, acknowledging the hospitality ('sukham sma ushyato'—we stayed happily). He uses the address 'Bhagavan' for the sage, showing reverence. Significantly, he refers to Agastya as the sage's 'Guru' and 'Agrajam' (elder brother), acknowledging the dual status of Agastya as both a sibling and a spiritual master. Asking for permission ('amantraye') before leaving is the mark of a cultured guest. Rama’s focus is fixed on the next step: the darshan of the great Agastya.

यह विदाई का संवाद है। श्रीराम ऋषि के प्रति कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करते हैं कि उन्होंने रात 'सुखम्' (सुखपूर्वक) बिताई। वे अगस्त्य मुनि के लिए 'गुरुम्' और 'अग्रजम्' शब्दों का प्रयोग करते हैं। 'अग्रज' (बड़े भाई) को 'गुरु' के समान मानना भारतीय संस्कृति का मूल मंत्र है। श्रीराम अपना उद्देश्य स्पष्ट करते हैं कि वे अगस्त्य मुनि के दर्शन के लिए उत्सुक हैं। उनकी वाणी में विनय और स्पष्टता दोनों है। यह श्लोक बड़ों के प्रति आदर और यात्रा के उद्देश्य के प्रति निष्ठा का संगम है।
