Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एष लोक अर्चितः साधुः हिते नित्यम् रतः सताम् ।
अस्मान् अधिगतान् एष श्रेयसा योजयिष्यति ॥ ॥३-११-८७॥
Eṣa loka arcitaḥ sādhuḥ hite nityam rataḥ satām । Asmān adhigatān eṣa śreyasā yojayiṣyati ॥ ॥3-11-87॥
Translation
This sage, worshipped by the world, is always engaged in the welfare of the virtuous. Upon our arrival, he will surely bless us with prosperity (spiritual good).
हिंदी अनुवाद
ये लोक-पूजित साधु (अगस्त्य) सज्जनों के कल्याण में निरंतर लगे रहते हैं। हम लोगों के यहाँ पहुँचने पर वे निश्चित ही हमारा कल्याण करेंगे।
English Commentary
Rama expresses deep optimism about the encounter. He characterizes Agastya as Loka-architah (worshipped by the world) and intrinsically motivated to help the good (Satam). The phrase Shreyasa yojayishyati (will yoke/connect us with good/welfare) is prophetic. Shreyas in Vedic thought often refers to long-term spiritual good, as opposed to Preyas (immediate pleasure). Rama anticipates that meeting Agastya will be a turning point in their exile, providing them with the spiritual and strategic advantage needed for the challenges ahead. It shows Rama’s humility in seeking blessings despite being an avatar himself.

राम यहाँ अपनी आशा और विश्वास व्यक्त कर रहे हैं। 'हिते नित्यम् रतः सताम्'—अगस्त्य का स्वभाव ही है सज्जनों का भला करना। राम जानते हैं कि वे वनवासी वेश में हैं और विपत्तियों से घिरे हैं, इसलिए उनसे एक समर्थ गुरु के मार्गदर्शन की आवश्यकता है। 'श्रेयसा' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—इसका अर्थ केवल लौकिक लाभ नहीं, बल्कि परम कल्याण या मोक्ष है। राम को विश्वास है कि अगस्त्य न केवल उन्हें रहने का स्थान देंगे, बल्कि राक्षसों के विनाश के लिए आवश्यक दिव्य अस्त्र और मार्गदर्शन (श्रेयस) भी प्रदान करेंगे। यह गुरु-शिष्य परंपरा का आदर्श है—पात्र (शिष्य) का आगमन और दाता (गुरु) द्वारा कल्याण।
